MIDDLELANDS FESTIVAL: A NEW, UNIQUE INSOMNIAC EVENT

In the woods in Todd Mission, Texas a new and one of a kind camping festival is born. The Middlelands festival will be held on May 5-7 with a theme aligned with the property on which it stands, the home of the Texas Renaissance festival. Groups that put on EDC, Lollapalooza, and Voodoo: Insomniac events and C3 promoters are collaborating to put on a medieval jamboree, complete with a plethora of camping options.

The EDM club scene has been around since the inception of the rave scene. However, a typical criticism of the EDM club scene you’ll hear is that it lacks the PLUR elements you’d find in the rave scene. Go to any rave forum and you’ll see people debating this religiously. You’ll see people who went to see their favorite producers/DJs spin a set at a high-end nightclub but ultimately leave with complaints about the crowd and staff having terrible vibes. However, there are still hidden gems in the club scene where the rave-culture is alive!

RAVER AT A RAP SHOW

EDM is my first love. I’ve been to more EDM festivals than I can count, and I always have such an amazing time. Sometimes though it can be so fun to shake things up a bit and go to shows which are completely different. I was lucky enough to see A$AP Rocky and Tyler the Creator a few nights ago at the same venue which USC Events holds many of their annual events, and let me tell you it was an incredibly different experience.

An Open Letter to Non-Ravers

After a recent argument with my dad about my participation in the EDM community (particularly my unparalleled desire to attend Electric Forest for the first time this year) I got to thinking about how raving is perceived by those who have never experienced it. It wasn’t that long ago that I had never attended an event, although I have liked the music for a while.  Sadly, I know that there are a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions about the culture I have come to know from my family in the past six months. It’s sad for me, and I’m sure for others, to know that something I love so much has such a bad reputation.
