Part of being a raver is living that amazing PLUR lifestyle, and it’s that time of year when we definitely need to do anything we can to help those in need and spread happiness. Whenever we think of helping those in need the first thing most people think is to donate money, and then feel like they can’t help out because they don’t have much money to give, but there are so many other ways to lend a helping hand! It seems like the only time some media talks about ravers is when something bad happens, but here is a list of easy things you can do to get involved with helping others and to continue to show people what great people ravers really are!
Give Out Care Bags: Whenever I drive around town I always see at least one person on the streets with a sign that says, “Need Food, Anything Helps”, or something similar. Many people are apprehensive about handing out cash, but do want to help. If you’re one of these people, it’s a great idea to carry a few bags in your car that have a bunch of helpful items in them, so that whenever you drive past someone that has one of these signs, you can hand them a little care package. All you need are some gallon sized freezer Ziploc bags filled with essentials like water, snacks with a long shelf life like chips, crackers, or granola bars, and other things people might need like Chapstick or sanitary items. You can even add your own little raver touch to it by making a simple kandi bracelet to throw in the bag that says something nice like “peace” or “love”, or write a nice little message on the front of the bag. Add anything to it that you feel will help people through their tough times.
Donate Items: Search around your city for places that will take old items that you don’t use or need anymore! This feels good because not only are clearing out all the unnecessary items in your house, but you’re also giving something to someone who might really need it, plus it’s completely free! Another way to donate is to do something like the Toys For Tots foundation. You can donate any unopened toy and it will be a gift for a little boy or girl. You can usually drop a toy off at your local fire station, but you can also go to toysfortots.org to search stores who have a drop off box. But Toys For Tots isn’t the only foundation that takes donations so be sure to do some research for any other donation opportunities you might also like!
Give Your Time And Volunteer: Being hands on and giving your time to volunteer costs no money and it’s a great way to help and get involved. In some ways this might feel the most rewarding because you are actually seeing how your work is helping others. There are all kinds of ways to volunteer and one that is really touching is to serve food to the homeless. It’s an amazing way to really do something special for people who need it.
Buy Items That Give Back To Others: I love companies that give back, and there are so many that sell items and donate parts of the proceeds to different charities and people in need. There is the really cool Lokai bracelet which is infused with mud from the Dead Sea which is the lowest point on earth, and it also has water from Mount Everest which is the highest point. As if that’s not already cool enough, they donate 10% of their profits to different charities! There are also other companies like DIFF that donate a pair of glasses for each pair of DIFF glasses purchased to people in need in Africa. Not only do you get to buy really cool items that you will love, but you get to feel good knowing that your purchase is helping someone in need too!
Raise Money To Give: Sometimes if you want to give money, but you don’t have any to give, you can always think of creative ways to raise it! Keep a money jar around and ask your family to put all their extra change that they don’t use in it. By the time the jar is filled to the top, you can cash it in and donate it to a cause you really care about. It might not be tons of money, but when it comes to charities and helping others in need, every penny counts and I’m sure whoever receives it will be very thankful for it.
The end of the year is always such a joyful time, but when people who are less fortunate than us are struggling, it’s up to us to spread the love and do everything we can to help. Like I mentioned, you don’t have to be rich to help out, anything even as little as giving your time can help. So lets keep PLUR alive this holiday season, and do everything we can to make sure everybody feels the good vibes!
A free spirited, loving raver living a very PLUR lifestyle :)
